BAD TRADERS (Send them hate mail.)
Keep your eyes open for the so-called traders listed below. These are not slow traders. These are people who received shows or tapes and didn't send their shows or tapes in return, even after being badgered to live up to their end of the trade.
A BAD TRADER IS someone who.....
-- never sent you the tape/show you wanted
-- didn't follow the agreed rules (eg, didn't tape in SP) and didn't do anything to make up for it
-- took more than two months to send you your tape

received at least three complaints from other traders. The core of my list is made up of bad traders reported by tapetrading.com, as of March 5, 1999. The rest are bad traders as reported by various sites I came across while cruising
the net. My info below is not fully complete. If you want more details contact the people who reported the bad traders.
Don't be thrown off by this list. The vast majority of traders out there are honest and sincere collectors. I've only been seriously trading since 1999 and I've had only a few problems. But there are other people out there who have been doing this for 10 or more years and they usually report only a handfull of bad traders, if any at all. Let the good traders out there know about these assholes and others that don't give a shit about the music or the bands they're supposed to be fans of.

I sent him money for an ex-rental copy of the classic "Dance Craze" ska compilation on 05/04/01. I go away on vacation expecting to find the tape waiting for me in the mailbox. But no tape, no replies to emails, nothing - he must be hiding under mama's bed or something. On 06/28/01 I find out he's ripped off two other people ("rareaves" and "themuse1").

This guy had a 9lb Hammer video that I had to have. I sent him $13 on 01/09/01 and then........silence, even after 3 emails were sent out. But on 03/05/01, the day after I said I'd put him on the Bad Traders hit list, he emailed to say he was having server problems. Somehow those server problems prevented him from going to the post office and mailing the tape to me. Fuckin' servers. Never thought I'd get stiffed for such a small amount.

On 12/15/00 I sent money for a rare 2hr Nirvana pro-shot in Florida not on anyone's list. Too good to be true? Sure enough he sent me a high gen copy of the very common 01/23/93 Rio show. I returned the tape 01/16/01 and told him to refund my money. Finally on 03/12/01 the idiot sent me an even worse quality show with very bad tracking to make up for it.

On 10/17/00 I bought DK's Olympic 1984 ("full set 50min"), Germs 12/79 ("40 min") and Minor Threat Philadelphia 1982 ("full set 60min"), which he described as "great quality...great sound, good quality video." The actual respective times were 23, 20 and 36 minutes, meaning I was short changed by 71 minutes. The quality was also greatly exaggerated. On 01/09/01 he said he'll send me an extra show. Nothing. On 02/21/01 he said "Relax, I sent it last week." Nothing. This guy is your typical bootlegger, just in it for the money. GET A REAL JOB YOU LOOSER!!!

I sent him a money order on 10/15/00 but he never sent the tape. Real friendly guy but as flakey as anyone can get. Very apologetic. "Thanks for being patient. I'll send you an extra tape for all the trouble I put you through," etc., etc. The last bullshit email from him was on 12/10/00. Slimey like algae, how appropriate!

On 12/20/00 I sent him US $24 (Cdn $37) for one tape with three low gen shows. But he didn't use a high grade tape and didn't record them in the order I asked, so the one show I really wanted got cut off. I sent him a blank high grade tape on 01/10/01 to get it re-recorded, but nothing happened. Here's the complete quote of what he emailed me 02/21/01: "I'M NOT SELLING ANY MORE VIDEOS FUCK FACE......i ended up pissing a few people off so i dont want to make people think im rippen em off so i am no longer selling.....so you cant hurt me ass wad." Do you think his pubic hairs have come in yet?

First time we traded, she sent me tapes with the sound recorded all in one side. I returned the tapes and she was able to re-record everything in stereo, no problems. On 10/05/00, our second trade, the 4 tapes I got from her once again had the sound recorded only in one channel. I sent her 4 blank tapes to re-record everything. This time she ignored all my emails, never mind about re-recording the shows. then on 01/09/01 I get an email from "Chris" saying Eva's "moved out a couple of months ago....left most of her video stuff but I cannot dub anything." Funny thing, there's a Chris Crawford from Yucaipa on my list of "Bad Traders Reported By Others"...........hmmm?!?

SLOW TRADERS (Make them send first.)
THESE ARE NOT BAD TRADERS. You will get your tapes from them......eventually. You might need a little patience. But if they have something you really want, you'll have to decide whether it's worth it to wait longer than normal. You should make them send first.
These are people who will send you the tape/show you wanted and follow the agreed trading rules. Chances are they're NOT GOING TO RIP YOU OFF and they're not being intentionally slow (I like to give people the benefit of the doubt). They may be busy with work, bands, promoting shows, family, etc. But who isn't busy with one thing or another? It's just a piss-off when they get your tape within two weeks and then you have to wait and remind them once, twice or more times to send you your tape. Most trades should be done within 3 weeks of getting the other persons wants, including overseas trades. One guy from Japan sent me my tape within 10 days of getting my wants.
A SLOW TRADER IS someone who takes between 5 to 8 weeks to send you your tape. If it takes more than 8 weeks the slow trader gets classified as a bad trader, unless alternatives are made.
TO AVOID BEING CALLED A SLOW TRADER, be honest about when the tape will go out. If you know you won't have the time, tell the other trader not to send any tapes until you've finished recording their tapes and are ready to mail them out. That way tapes on both sides of the trade go out at the same time and everybody is happy. Stay in touch during the trade and use common sense.
